About The Diary of a Petsitter

Welcome to The Diary of a Petsitter - a space for honest stories, experiences and observations from life as an independent pet sitter.

Pet Sitting might look simple from the outside.

You visit someone’s home, feed their cat, take a dog for a walk, give a few cuddles and head home.

But there’s a lot more to it than that.

Behind every appointment is a person running a small business, building relationships with clients, managing schedules, dealing with unexpected situations, learning to set boundaries and figuring things out as they go.

And that’s what this blog is about.

More Than Just Pet Sitting

Here you’ll find stories from the day-to-day reality of working with animals - the funny moments, the challenging ones, the unexpected lessons and the experiences that stay with you long after an appointment is over.

I’ll also share thoughts about building a pet-sitting business, finding your feet as a small business owner, managing clients, learning from mistakes and discovering what works - and what definitely doesn’t.

There will be practical tips, pet-care insights, lifestyle pieces, product discoveries and, occasionally, the things that don’t fit neatly into any category at all.

Because sometimes, the most interesting stories are the ones you never planned to tell.

The Person Behind the Stories

The person behind The Diary of a Petsitter has chosen to remain anonymous.

Not because the stories aren’t real - quite the opposite.

They’re drawn from real experiences, observations and lessons from working in pet care and building a life around it.

Keeping my identity private simply allows me to share those experiences openly while respecting the privacy of myself, my clients and the animals I care for.

Names and identifying details may be changed or omitted where appropriate.

An Honest Look Behind the Scenes

Social media often shows the prettiest parts of pet sitting.

The happy dogs.

The sleepy cats.

The beautiful walks.

The cuddles.

And yes, those moments really are wonderful.

But there is another side too.

The early starts. The driving. The weather. The unexpected situations. The client communication. The business administration. The responsibility of caring for someone else’s beloved pet.

The days when everything goes perfectly - and the days when absolutely nothing goes according to plan.

The Diary of a Petsitter is here for all of it.

Because pet sitting isn’t just about spending time with animals.

It’s a business, a responsibility, a lifestyle and, for many of us, a career that can evolve in ways we never expected.

Come Along for The Journey

This isn’t a perfectly polished success story.

It’s an ongoing journey.

There are lessons still being learned, ideas still being explored, mistakes still being made and plenty more stories waiting to be told.

So whether you’re an experienced pet sitter, someone thinking about becoming one, a pet owner, an animal lover, or simply someone who enjoys a good real-life story, I hope you’ll find something here that makes you laugh, think, learn something new - or perhaps recognise a little bit of yourself.

Welcome to The Diary of a Petsitter.

There’s always more to pet sitting than meets the eye.
